Carmen Dwyer
Biography
Carmen Dwyer
I am a 39 year old single mother of an 18 year old son. I am of Portuguese decent and I was born in Portugal.
Since the age of 14 I have struggled with an eating disorder and body dysmorphic disorder. Dealing with an injury to my right knee since the age of 7, I could never participate in any sports while growing up. I was the kid who sat out on the bleaches during gym class throughout my school years.
My dream was to look like the magazine models, not knowing how, when, where, or what I could do , I just knew I wanted to look like them and from there my obsession began.
Through the years I tried every diet imaginable and I never saw the results that I imagined I would get. I always tried to maintain a healthy diet and I ran 4-5 miles per day with abs and push ups. Yes, that was the extent of my fitness until last year.
2008, was my year to SHINE….I joined my local gym and started working out, then one day I was asked if I would be interested in competing…No Way! I said…I will do the diet and see where it takes me.
Well, my friends…4 weeks later I saw the most AMAZING transformation in my body and I never wanted to look back.
For the first time in 25 years, I looked in the mirror and LOVED what I saw. I fell in love with my body again and I found the greatest passion ever in maintaining a clean eating diet and weight-training. Staying fit has helped me overcome many fears and struggles. I was able to overcome anxiety disorder that I have been battling for 8 years and of course it helped me build my confidence. I never thought I could be where I am today, physically, mentally and emotionally. I owe it all to the people who have helped me in the last year and of course to myself. My commitment, dedication, determination and perseverance to staying fit and healthy has changed my life for the best and I hope that I can inspire others to feel the same.
I am currently taking a course on fitness and nutrition to help me be more educated in the fitness industry and so that I may share my experience and knowledge with others. I am living proof that if you believe in yourself and have the drive and determination to make a difference, anything is possible!
I started competing in figure competitions in July of 2008. My goal is to continue my training and earn my pro card and continue with the fitness industry to encourage, motivate and empower others to achieve their goals and to see myself in fitness magazines.
Thanks to all who have inspired and supported me. You have touched my life in one way or another.
