In July 2008 my father suddenly passed away and made me realize just how precious and short life is and to live life to the fullest. During this traumatic time in my life, I gained weight and weighed 141 lbs. I am slowly approaching 40 and thought it was time to change and set and goal and challenge myself.
I decided to start working out more an watching my diet. I attended Phat Camp in October 2008 in Toronto held by Jennifer Hendershott and her team and Tosca Reno was a guest speaker. I have to say, Jen Hendershott really has a way with people………she made me realize that I am standing in my away of accomplishing anything, no on else. I thought if these women can do it, why can’t I??
I always thought I was in good shape, until I took my “before” pictures and realized that I really had no shape. I decided to start a workout/diet program that would get me in the best shape possible…….I always wanted to enter a fitness competition but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would look like those girls…..until I started seeing the results. I was amazed with my transformation and decided to enter my first competition on April 11, 2009 – the Fitness Star Model Search, www.fitnessstar.ca. I didn’t win but I am so proud that I did it.
In January 2009 I decided to get serious with working out. I hired a personal trainer, Andre Rzazewski, www.totrainer.ca. With his expertise I was able to take my body to a place I never thought was possible. After seeing great results, he encouraged me to compete at the Fitness Star Model Search. Along with the weight training, I also enjoy fitness boxing classes at Fuel Fitness, www.fuelfitness.ca. Marc Lebert encouraged me and helped me push beyond my comfort zone!
I went from 131.5 lbs and 24.5% body fat to 111 lbs and 12.5% body fat in 12 weeks. I did this by changing my diet to 5-6 smaller meals a day. I kicked up my training to 6 days a week and tried to get 30-45 minutes of cardio in a day.
I am so proud of my hard work and transformation of my body. This was a goal/challenge that I never thought I would be able to achieve but am not convinced that if I could do it, anyone can.
After my first competition, I am hooked. I plan to compete in other competitions in 2009 – nothing is holding me back!! I am lucky to have my husband and two beautiful daughters support throughout my journey!
