HELLO to my WBFF family and fellow fitness gurus! I am SO excited for the fantastic opportunity that Paul Dillett has givin me – a regular blog spot here on the WBFF website!! This is something that means a great deal to me as I’ve always found myself here in search of inspiring words from the industry’s leading icons and to remain up to date on the latest news in the world of training, show prep, and other hot topics! I am off the charts pumped UP about the fact that I can now offer an inside glimpse to you into MY world training, and follow along the next 9 weeks of my journey of my contest preparation for the WBFF Alberta Championships on July 3rd!
Today, actually the initial inspiration for this WBFF debut blog, I decided to try to master the art of fitness-meets-fashion, at a glamour shoot with the fabulous Casey and Jojo of Pink Elephant Photography here in Winnipeg to kick off the start of my show prep (which was a complete blast)! I’ve decided that I need to add some versatility into my portfolio with some high fashion-esque images, focusing on different elements of modeling to broaden my horizons in the fitness and commercial modeling world. The bubbly blonde smiling fitness model-in-bikinis-and-gym-clothes look I’vebeen known to sport is totally me, but I know I can pull off more:). With a little “out of the box” outfit planning, some thrifty finds at stores I don’t usually find myself in, and creative direction from Casey and Jojo, I managed to get exactly what I wanted out of the shoot. A bright sequin bra paired with a cropped cotton shrug, dark jeggins and beige peep toe heels made for some interesting looks on some less than sturdy wooden steps. I was covered, but not enough to look “thick”. SUCCESS! Although a sequin bra and jeans isn’t acceptable for everyday nightlife, the white cropped shrug will be perfect for tonight’s date night dinner with Riley (who got to witness his first real photoshoot today and I think was shocked that I could hold a serious expression for that long lol) . Playing with strange jewlery, headbands, and makeup is something I’m also dabbling in and a simple solution that can dramatically shake up a look. A drapey beige off the shoulder sweater paired with soft pink Lululemon underwear and leg warmers made for some fun playing around on the floor shots today, which still allowed my more muscular legs to peek out… after all, we want to avoid the “blob” look with being too covered, even in a glamour shoot and especially on camera where EVERYTHING looks like you’re wearing more than you really are. So no, I did not forget my pants. But that’s enough of that, you’ll need to check my website www.tannismiller.com for the rest of this blog and to see some more of my fashion-meets-fitness tips and looks from my Pink Elephant Photography shoot in the weeks to come. Hopefully I can inspire some of the other fitness models out there to (my favorite saying in the gym and out!) get out of their comfort zone at their next shoot with some different fashion pieces, and I know I’m trying myself, but as well as everyday wardrobe decisions!
So, sport a sequin clad bikini on the WBFF stage, strut a tight little red dress on a night out on the town, or even throw on a parachute if you really want to (okay well maybe not), just learn to sport the right clothing for YOUR physique so you can love it, flaunt it, and embrace your healthy, athletic bod full of curves or not, with all of the confidence you deserve! Go WBFF Divas, and all the athletes in between!
Happy training, and goodluck to those of you who are also 9 weeks out! Woooo!
