I have some very exciting news for ALL competitors both amateur and professional looking to take their physiques to a level they never thought possible. Also fans out there with dreams or plans to compete in the WBFF. IFBB Pro Michele Ralabate has dedicated herself to helping, coaching, and motivating competitors to be their absolute best. Michele is an icon in the sport and has seen ALL sides of it, good and bad. So impressed with what Paul Dillett is doing with the WBFF, she has decided to become a huge part of the organization. At first considering a return to the stage as a competitor, Michele has decided that she has SO much to offer, that she would be better working with our athletes making them the best they can be. Sharing her vast knowledge and expertise in every facet of the sport. I am proud to make this announcement since I have been a fan as well as a friend of hers for many years, and KNOW what she can offer all who utilize her!

Michele Ralabate has been a world-class athlete and fitness trainer for more than twenty years. Her early athletic endeavors were in gymnastics, with a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania.. Michele graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education / Sports Management. As an elite level gymnast, Michele was invited to the 1984 Olympic Trials. Unfortunately injury prevented her from finishing the competition but that would not deter her from pursuing other physical feats. Michele then went on to earn professional status in both figure and bodybuilding. As a result of her bodybuilding success, she has been featured on ESPN. Her articles on training and nutrition have been published in several magazines. Featured in well over thirty magazines both nationally and internationally. Michele has even graced the cover of several muscle & fitness magazines.

Michele is one of only three women to compete in both the IFBB Ms. Olympia bodybuilding and the IFBB Fitness Olympia. Michele won the lightweight and overall title at the 1994 Nationals and then went on to win her first pro show at the 1995 Jan Tana Classic. Michele also won the Women’s Strength Extravaganza two years in a row, beating Ray Hollett the gladiators records. Michele has always won the best poser award taking advantage of her vast athletic abilities as a gymnast and dancer.

Michele is now available for pre-contest prep or off season training. What ever your goal is Michele will make it happen. Take it from a Pro who has been on both sides of the sport and knows what it takes to be a winner! She can be contacted at: 716-200-3124 or e-mail her at micheleralabate@yahoo.com.

FUSION at the WBFF World Championships.
There was a lot of build-up for this year’s WBFF World Championships at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. The bodybuilding forums and Facebook have been filled with chatter. Some people have been sceptical while others see the need for change in Canadian bodybuilding and have embraced what the WBFF stand for…giving back to the athletes. Well, after witnessing this year’s show it’s clear that the WBFF has taken over at the premier Canadian bodybuilding organization. (more…)

David Ford will be covering the 2009 WBFF World Championships for industry leading Status Fitness and top woman’s publication Oxygen.

Everyone wants great photos of their moment on stage, especially the prestigious WBFF Worlds stage. The incredible lighting, the high level of athletes… these are the photos that capture that and all the hard work, and equally important, you get to see yourself from the judges point of view.

Are you holding your poses? Are you smiling at the judges? Do you look confident? Are you holding water? Is the suit flattering after you dropped water? Pictures never lie and if you want valuable feedback then you’ll want WBFF Official Photographer David Ford’s Contest Stage Photographs. (more…)

Being a Top Fitness Model – Some Points to Consider

Over the course of the last 14 weeks I have had a chance to follow WBFF Pro Fitness Model Annette Milbers-Fleck at times as she prepares for Paul Dillette’s WBFF World Championships on September 19 in Mississauga.

Definitely one of the biggest names in Canada, and elite PVL Authentic Sports Nutrition athlete, it instantly became clear why Annette is so highly sought everywhere she goes. Down to earth, approachable, helpful beyond words, sincere and lives her life more for the others around her then for herself is a good part of why she has excelled in this tough industry.

So many models and athletes approach me and tell me they want to quit their jobs and become a fitness model. It’s hard to hold back a smile as it’s a dream that very few ever reach. (more…)

Daryl’s Rant – Some things are worth the Profanity…Go WBFF!

Okay….I’ve just managed to catch my breath and sit down to the lap top following an alarming phone call with the WBFF prez aka Paul Dillett regarding one of the prizes at our WBFF World Championships which for those who don’t own access to ANY media, is taking place on September 19th… www.wbffshows.com

Here’s a quick recap of how this conversation unfolded…there may be a few additions on my behalf…

{Paul} “Gazey, I need you to write up a press release for us that’s going to go out everywhere as I intensely love your humor, your wit and quite frankly, you’re very handsome.

{Daryl} “No problem….what’s up? (contemplating the huge bonus that is undoubtedly soon to follow)

{Paul} “I’m going to do something NOBODY has ever done in the sport before to really kick off the bikini model division…”

{Daryl} “You’re finally going to put on that sequined two piece with the tiara and heels and enter?”

{Paul} “I’m putting up TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for the winner of the bikini model division!”

{Daryl} “Not bad, so that’s five grand for first, three for second….”

Paul quickly interjected, “No, that’s TEN GRAND FOR THE WINNER”

Complete silence as my jaw dropped…we could hear the faint static on the line as I contemplated what he just said… My response, “Are you f*%ing crazy?” Ten Grand????

“Yup” said Paul, “you heard correct, Ten Thousand Bucks!”

I’m thinking to myself what ten grand means…that’s a nice chunk of change…car purchase, pay off Visa, take a cruise, turn around the debt situation, hire Daryl Gazey….the opportunities were endless.

For the first time EVER, the WBFF will be adding a $10,000.00 prize purchase for the bikini model winner on September 19th at the WBFF World Championships.

An unprecedented amount of prizes which will total over $100,000.00 is up for grabs in this event…

Stay tuned for more….

The ‘Modeling’ in Fitness Modeling – Don’t Overlook Anything!

The ‘Modeling’ in Fitness Modeling – Don’t Overlook Anything
by Daryl Gazey
WBFF Director of Operations/All Around Good Guy

With the 2009 WBFF World Championships drawing quickly upon us, I thought I would take the opportunity to address a few of the common concerns that have arose from previous shows. Commonly, questions come flowing in after an event to the tune of, “What are the judges’ looking for?” mainly in reference to the modeling divisions; which for those of you who have been following have lined the stages with attractive and highly competitive physiques.

Bear in mind that in competitions such as these, subjectivity of criteria can often sway for and against a competitor. Unlike some events where there is a clearly defined winner, physique competitions aren’t subject to the same ‘first person to cross the finish line wins‘ assessments. Our aim is for a collaborative effort of establishing what makes one person stand out from another; again as this is subjective, there are always going to be those who leave the building satisfied and those who…well, you catch the drift. WBFF Calgary – “I Found a Horn and I’m blowing it!”

Be the first to comment!

So here we are, a couple days post wrap from our largest show to date. The WBFF Team in mid flight to Calgary, holding hands and saying our “If we build it, they’ll come” chants in hopes of a turn out of no less than 100 athletes. Having a fitness show of any sorts in ‘new territory’ is often a scary endeavor as you never know how strong of a foothold you’re able to gain being the new kid on the block.

Well, with the thanks of WBFF Pro Annette Milbers Fleck and photographer extraordinaire David Ford, 153 athletes were gathered at the athlete registration to listen to my ‘throne speech’ about who we are and why we do what we do…

Many ‘thanks’ and praise have continued to rush in and has filled our facebook accounts and email in boxes with gratitude. This, in itself, makes every ounce of everything we put into these shows worthwhile. YOU are the WBFF and we share a small part in it. This is something that I personally promise we will never lose sight of. The growth of our organization has been staggering. Athletes from 19 countries are registered to compete in our World Championships; giving rise to the “World” in WBFF. Again, thanks to all of you who believe in what we believe in…that bodybuilding and fitness doesn’t have to be relegated to a small group of fitness lovers.

The bee that buzzes in my bonnet is the small group of haters that seem to attempt to knock on us for what we’re doing, while at the same time singing their praises of how they are ‘all about the athletes’. If ANY organization is ALL about the athletes, they wouldn’t be hating on anyone for doing a good job in the fitness world. Let me clarify what I feel is a ‘good job’ in fitness competitions. I’m going to throw this out there to those organizations that choose to banter ill will…(this is the part where Daryl is standing on top of the mountain, red cape a dazzle and blowing his horn)…

* athlete inquiries are handled promptly and courteously
* athletes that register with the WBFF receive a boat load of goodies that FAR exceed the value of registration (last event alone each bag contained over $400 in products)
* venues are of the highest caliber and contain a production value that is ‘made for TV’ atmosphere
* marketing of events are spread globally and utilize WBFF athletes to increase athletes’ marketability
* prize packages are ‘career starting’ – contract endorsements, trips, etc.
* guaranteed ‘covers’ of mainstream fitness magazines
* photographers who are directly affiliated with magazines in attendance at EVERY event
* partnerships with companies that align themselves with our vision
* WBFF Pros compete for over $35,000 in cash alone which is within reach of every successful athlete
* an ongoing partnership with the WBFF which supports your fitness and business goals
* events are entertaining, competitive and are guaranteed not to contain any saturated or trans fats
* the emcee is rather attractive, witty, debonair and articulate (who writes this stuff?)

As you can see, why the hell would anyone consider competing with the WBFF??

Do we have a ‘hate on’ for any of the other fitness organizations? Hell no….in fact, if you’re one of those avid supporters of ANY federation, I’d be happy to list your event for you and extend an invitation to come to our events and mingle with the WBFF athletes…. when you have a nice home, you’re not afraid to invite people in…

Come on in!

Go WBFF! Go NPC! Go IFBB! Go CBBF! Go CBBF Ontario Division! Go OPA! Go ABBA! Go NABBA! Go IDFA! Go UFE! Go Fitness Stars! Go FAME!

As you can see…regardless of where the chips fall and wherever athletes decide to compete….it’s all good! I enjoy fitness and I enjoy fitness competitions…wherever, however, whenever…with whom, matters not..

Respectfully,

Daryl Gazey

In over two decades of my involvement in this wonderful sport of bodybuilding & fitness, a prevailing attitude always seems to surface and I’ve rarely seen it addressed. Certainly we’d all agree that encyclopedias have been compiled on ‘how to get in shape, how to lose the last ten pounds, how to carb load, etc. etc.’ to the point where you’d likely rather throw your hands in the air and hail that you’ve had enough diet and training advice already!

Quite often, some avid trainers wish to pursue the very (sense the sarcasm please) lucrative world of fitness modeling in their quest to ‘get discovered’ or perhaps have their name attached to a piece of cardio equipment or something of that nature ala Tony Little.

That’s not to say that fitness modeling can not lead (please stress on the word lead) to bigger and better ventures but in itself, you’d likely be better off playing ‘Powerball’ than you would carbing up for the “Mr. or Mrs. Tucked Out of the Way Junior Novice Sunshine Mayhem” competition if you desire to load your coffers. Canadian bodybuilding and fitness….fact or fallacy?

The bitter and hard reality of fitness in Canada is in desperate need for the winds of change to breathe new light into a struggling industry. It is a hard pill to swallow when we realize that athletes who strive to be the ‘best of the best’ climb through the fitness ranks of their organizations only to be forced to leave Canada to seek the greener pastures of competition. This strongly suggests that something must be done to keep these elite close to home and provide opportunities that rival or surpass those ‘pastures’ commonly found in the United States or overseas. Let’s face it, in many respects we’ve become the ‘red-headed step son’ to the United States in the light of the entertainment and sports arenas; fitness and bodybuilding being no exception. (more…)

Image… Do Fitness Models Train Hard? Annette Milbers Fleck Does!!

There are often a few misconceptions in our sport. One being, the image of many fitness models and bikini models is that they use the genetics God gave them and they coast along. Sure, this may be the case for a chosen few but every girl that makes it to the professional ranks has worked hard to get there.

Yesterday I had the chance to follow my good friend WBFF Pro Fitness Model Annette Milbers Fleck around the World Health Club while she worked through a delt tear to train shoulders and arms. As you’ll see from the video, Annette works her tail off in the gym and impressed the heck out of me. Always one to cover up and dress modestly, it took some coaxing for her to train in a tank top so we could really see her muscles at work. This girl is serious!

For many, PVL’s elite athlete Annette is the perfect goal… a nice balance of muscle and femininity… very marketable with great looks. If someone is afraid that lifting intesenely will destroy the femininity factor, think again. There would be very few, if any that train as hard and as smart as Annette. Remember, the physique is about balance. Life is about balance. The ability to listen when it speaks. To take time off rather then get run down. To shape the muscles for the sake of illusion. To push through injuries while striving to reach your lofty goals. Balance. (more…)

The WBFF supports ALL bodybuilding and fitness organizations and highly encourage athletes to compete as much, as often and as frequently as they’re able to with any organization…the reason being, that bodybuilding/fitness in of itself, is NOT a lucrative sport. Yes I feel that a handful of individuals can make a substantial living as a result of their bodybuilding efforts and related endeavors but if we search the history of Canadian Federations vs their pros who have attained exemplary benefits, it’s rather disappointing to say the least. Correct me if I’m overlooking anyone, but Dillett was one of the very few individuals to state claim to a six figure contract of any Canadian pros in the history of the sport. This isn’t meant to bash any of the very talented Canadian pros in our ranks but merely to draw reference to fact.
Now if this is something that MUST change, then I don’t know what is!

Rather than getting into little pissy-fit arguments about who’s plugging themselves with sustanon or who’s gargling with wheat grass, let’s remind ourselves that our common objective is to exemplify our sport AND increase market appeal. With market appeal comes more competitors and thus more sponsors. With more sponsors comes better prizes and opportunities. The ball continues to roll and so on, so forth…. Why do pro athletes in ANY other sport make exorbitant incomes? The answer is simple….because they can! (more…)
