Paul Dillett’s WBFF BC Championships were exactly what was needed to wake an industry that has been lulled by months of the same old. When you awaken the sleeping giant, everyone takes notice and on April 17th, the fitness industry welcomed the second installment of the show that sets the precedent for the remainder of the year. Start with the best, and follow through to end with the best – WBFF Worlds in mid September. In the meantime, keep an eye on the activity that will once again uproot the status quo.

Status Fitness Magazine was in the house big time in Vancouver. Adding to an already incredible event, Status Fitness elevated the show factor by presenting award winning singing sensation Rosette. Rosette rocked the house with her Juno nominated song Crushed and followed it up with Ditzy Girl, a new single that will inevitably be a chart contender in the next while. An avid reader of Status Fitness, Rosette was sure to admit that it’s her favorite fitness publication.

Hundreds of copies of Status Fitness were put in the hands of athletes and sport fans over the weekend and the prestigious Status Fitness Girls of the WBFF Calendar was showcased and given out to excited competitors, some of which may be considered for our next exciting calendar. The popularity of this venture has been astounding… an amazing project that both Rodney Jang, Editor-in-Chief, and myself put into motion at the 2009 WBFF World Championships. After the WBFF BC Championships, the Status Fitness tradition continued on Sunday, as we held our popular Day of Recognition that saw 25 athletes photographed at Golds Gym Richmond. Curtis Trudeau men’s overall winner, photographed at this event, is featured in our next issue on shelves in the next few weeks. On Monday, Status Fitness held the Surf n’ Sand Shoot which included the new fitness model sensation Svetlana Romanova. Watch for more of Svetlana in Status over the next few issues.

Now it’s time for preparation for the WBFF Alberta Championships!! The enthusiasm is mounting. This will likely be the biggest show of the year outside of the WBFF World Championships. Once again it kicks off the Calgary Stampede which is considered the greatest outdoor show on earth!! Without much exaggeration, you can be sure the WBFF Alberta show will be the greatest indoor show in Calgary on July 3 as the show takes over the Martha Cohen Theatre at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts.

Status Fitness will be present in Calgary in a big way once again. July 4th is the Status Fitness Day of Recognition where many of the top athletes will be selected for shoots for exciting upcoming projects and features. If you’re competing, then you could be one of the lucky ones selected by myself and Rodney Jang.

I have some very exciting news for ALL competitors both amateur and professional looking to take their physiques to a level they never thought possible. Also fans out there with dreams or plans to compete in the WBFF. IFBB Pro Michele Ralabate has dedicated herself to helping, coaching, and motivating competitors to be their absolute best. Michele is an icon in the sport and has seen ALL sides of it, good and bad. So impressed with what Paul Dillett is doing with the WBFF, she has decided to become a huge part of the organization. At first considering a return to the stage as a competitor, Michele has decided that she has SO much to offer, that she would be better working with our athletes making them the best they can be. Sharing her vast knowledge and expertise in every facet of the sport. I am proud to make this announcement since I have been a fan as well as a friend of hers for many years, and KNOW what she can offer all who utilize her!

Michele Ralabate has been a world-class athlete and fitness trainer for more than twenty years. Her early athletic endeavors were in gymnastics, with a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania.. Michele graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education / Sports Management. As an elite level gymnast, Michele was invited to the 1984 Olympic Trials. Unfortunately injury prevented her from finishing the competition but that would not deter her from pursuing other physical feats. Michele then went on to earn professional status in both figure and bodybuilding. As a result of her bodybuilding success, she has been featured on ESPN. Her articles on training and nutrition have been published in several magazines. Featured in well over thirty magazines both nationally and internationally. Michele has even graced the cover of several muscle & fitness magazines.

Michele is one of only three women to compete in both the IFBB Ms. Olympia bodybuilding and the IFBB Fitness Olympia. Michele won the lightweight and overall title at the 1994 Nationals and then went on to win her first pro show at the 1995 Jan Tana Classic. Michele also won the Women’s Strength Extravaganza two years in a row, beating Ray Hollett the gladiators records. Michele has always won the best poser award taking advantage of her vast athletic abilities as a gymnast and dancer.

Michele is now available for pre-contest prep or off season training. What ever your goal is Michele will make it happen. FUSION at the WBFF World Championships.
There was a lot of build-up for this year’s WBFF World Championships at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. The bodybuilding forums and Facebook have been filled with chatter. Some people have been sceptical while others see the need for change in Canadian bodybuilding and have embraced what the WBFF stand for…giving back to the athletes. Well, after witnessing this year’s show it’s clear that the WBFF has taken over at the premier Canadian bodybuilding organization.

Not only does the WBFF have the finest production in all of bodybuilding but Paul Dillett and his amazing team have put together the largest prize purse in Canadian bodybuilding and fitness history. Giving away over 120 grand worth of cash and prizes, the athletes left feeling like they are finally getting what they deserve. The FUSION team managed to grab some cash and hardware of their own. Both Dan Ziccardi (Middleweight) and Dave Naugler (Pro Division) managed to take 3rd in their very tough classes and FUSION advocate Craig Bonnett took second in the Pro Division. Way to go guys we’re proud of you!

I’d also like to say, on a more personal note, that the highlight of my WBFF experience was meeting Wayne DeMilia. You know times are changing when one of the men who help build the Mr. Olympia is taking interest in what’s going on.
